Mountain Man Triathlon
Wednesday, 08 September 2010 17:54
August 21st was the date for Branson's first annual sprint triathlon called the Mountain Man (due to our hilly terrain).  I had the opportunity of helping to create and conduct this sprint triathlon along side the Branson Park and Recreation staff.  Orginally, I encouraged the Park and Rec. division to hold this triathlon so that I could compete in a sprint triathlon close to home.  However, I became so involved with creating and conducting it that I was unable to compete in it first year.  There is always next year, and I look forward to competing then.  We had about 100 racer by race start saturday morning.  This sprint triathlon consisted of a 450 yard pool swim, 20 mile bike on the "high road" and a 5k run.  The fastest time was about 1 hour 33 minutes.  Because of our Ozark Mountain terrain and a longer than usual bike course, finishing times were longer than your average sprint triathlon.  However, these difference have set our race apart as a unique and exciting option within the fitness community.  I fully expect it to grow more each year.
